The scenic route.

Cape Breton has a long history of railroading. Short lines, some narrow-gauge, were built originally as tramways using horse-power to take coal from mine to wharf. One line became the first in North America to use a steam locomotive on a narrow-gauge line. By 1895 there was an extensive network of standard-gauge track constituting what was later known as the Sydney and Louisbourg Railway. In 1975 much of this was still in use for freight(diesel-powered), but the Port Morien line had been restored for steam operation only. This is the line Old 42 used for her tours.
